The old shed

Garage sale

In an old shed, neatly covered by a cloth, Grandpa’s T-Ford was waiting to be restored. Way back, in the same shed, some old furniture was stored. Grandma bought new furniture but kept hold of the old because the children ‘might need it one day’, she always said.

Then came the time that Grandpa, who was a carpenter, retired. Great, he thought, now I have time to start the restorations on my T-Ford. But something came up, his daughter asked him to build a dolls house for his granddaughter, a dolls shop to be precise. And of cause he did, and he loved doing this. In fact, Grandpa enjoyed making the doll shop so much that he made one after another and finally there was a whole exhibition of shops to be seen in his shed. Grandpas went to fairs and exhibitions and the shops sold well. He also made some simple puppets and these sold even better. Grandpa even received commissions for building more shops end the result was that there was just not enough room for all this in his shed.

With pain in his heart, he moved his T-Ford outside the barn, where it stood waiting. Grandma suggested to built an extension to the shed so Grandpa could both work on the dolls shops and his old T-Ford. That was a plan, Grandpa liked, so he started building.

One afternoon, Grandma walked in to tell Grandpa that dinner was ready. She looked around in the shed and saw the old furniture, still stored in the back of the shed. Our children, don't have much interest in the furniture, she said, let have a garage sale and try and sell it all. Grandpa made a sign and put it out on the street: garage sale, coming Sunday!! After that both Grandma and Grandpa were content and they walked off together to have dinner.
